HISTORY

THE BEGINNINGS

The predecessor of UniCredit Bank Hungary was established in 1990 by the once biggest bank of the Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy under the name of Creditanstalt Rt. As a result of the fusions and development that have taken place in the last 25 years, as well as the dedicated and hard work of the employees of the bank, by now UniCredit has become one of the leading banks in Hungary.

THE ERA OF FUSIONS

The fusions with Bank Austria in 1998 and with HypoVereinsbank in 2001 led to the establishment of the successful and recognised HVB Group, which steadily increased its balance sheet total and the number of its clients year by year. In 2005 another fusion took place between HypoVereinsbank AG – Bank Austria Creditanstalt AG and Italian UniCredito Italiano S.p.A, giving birth to one of the leading banking groups in Europe, and certainly the biggest one in the CEE region.

UNICREDIT BANK

After the UniCredit Group consolidated its brand structure in 2007, its Hungarian affiliate continued its operations as UniCredit Bank Hungary. As one of the leading actors in the Hungarian banking industry, UniCredit Bank offers its over 400,000 clients a wide range of services from retail and business lending and factoring to large-scale development projects using EU funds, to account management, bank deposits, wealth management and investment banking services. This offer is further enhanced with the services provided by UniCredit Leasing Hungary Zrt, the Hungarian leasing affiliate of Unicredit Group, and Pioneer Alapkezelő Zrt., and is supported with financial resources by UniCredit Jelzálogbank Zrt. UniCredit Bank is the only bank in Hungary that has been able to remain profitable throughout the recent years. Characterised by an above-the-average customer satisfaction level, the bank has won a number of awards both in Hungary and abroad. In 2014 UniCredit Bank Hungary was the third biggest bank in Hungary.
